EL GRAN CARNVAL: 10th – 13th February

El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro is a traditional festival from the Mestizo culture, which brought it down to northern Belize, and Ambergris Caye. El Gran Carnaval is celebrated to begin the lent season. It takes place over three days with painting, music and comparsas (street dancers). Carnaval is a celebration like Mardi Gras and is celebrated a week before Ash Wednesday. It is meant for people to indulge in pleasures that they will avoid during Lent. Men dress as women, and perform dances for money in the street, with a competition to see who performs the most outlandish dance. Up until the last day of the carnival the local people take to the streets to paint one another.

EASTER: (LATE MARCH – EARLY APRIL)

Experience Easter like never before in Belize! Forget everything you know about this holiday, as Belizean Easter is a lively celebration. San Pedro takes the long weekend to a whole new level, making it one of the busiest and most significant times of the year on the island. The entire island comes alive with a mix of tourists and locals, all converging to partake in various events, ranging from religious ceremonies to lively beach parties. San Pedro transforms into a vibrant hub of energy and enthusiasm, offering a unique blend of cultural, recreational, and spiritual experiences.

SAN PEDRO BEER FEST: (June 8th )

The Belize Tourism Industry Association San Pedro Chapter (SP BTIA) added one more festivity to the island’s summer calendar with the debut of their Beer Fest. The new festival, co-sponsored by Bowen and Bowen, the San Pedro Town Council, Belize Tourism Board, featured a wide range of Belizean beers, and beer tasting competition, local with artisanal booths and fun activities.

DIA DE SAN PEDRO/ SAN PEDRO DAY: (Mid-June)

San Pedro comes alive with the festivities of La Dia de San Pedro, a day dedicated to honouring the patron saint of the island, Saint Peter. Join the locals in commemorating this special occasion in the heart of the community at the Central Park or the local Fair grounds. a Dia de San Pedro is more than a single-day affair – it’s a three-day festival that pays homage to the cherished traditions of the island. Experience traditional dances and food, along with a mix of international and local entertainment that adds to the festive atmosphere. The highlight of the festival is the renowned Miss San Pedro Pageant, which kicks off the Dia De San Pedro Festival in style.

LOBSTER FEST: (JULY 1st – 13th)

The highlight of this season is the Lobster Fest in San Pedro, where restaurants converge in the central area, setting up booths to tantalize your taste buds with mouthwatering lobster specials. Engage in the true foodie experience as these local chefs compete for the title of the best lobster dish and best plate. But the lobster celebration doesn’t end in San Pedro – broaden your horizons by hopping over to the neighbouring island of Caye Caulker for their Lobsterfest. Then, cap off your lobster-themed journey in the beachy town of Placencia, located on the southern peninsula of Belize, where yet another Lobsterfest awaits. With strategic planning, you can indulge the best of Belizean seafood.

BELIZE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC & FOOD FESTIVAL: (JULY 27th & 28th)

The Belize Tourism Board’s signature event that combines the best of Belizean musicians and culinary talents on a regional and international stage. Now in its third year it will be returning to Ambergris Caye! this annual concert is a celebration of the country’s largest and it’s not one to miss

BELIZE INDEPENDENCE DAY (September 10th & 21st)

In the month of September, Belize becomes a hub of national pride, marked by the celebration of two significant holidays – St. George’s Caye Day and Independence Day. The pinnacle of these festivities falls on the 21st of September, making it a time of patriotism and jubilation for all Belizeans. If you find yourself in Belize during Independence Day, prepare to witness the nation in full celebration mode.

The festivities commence with a lively carnival parade featuring children’s groups, businesses, and dance troupes, parading from the middle street in San Pedro to the beachfront, The heart of the celebrations unfolds at Boca Del Rio Area or the local football field. the festivities continue in local bars, each offering something special to keep the excitement alive. It’s a time when the community comes together to celebrate Belize’s journey towards independence, creating an unforgettable experience for locals and visitors alike.

GARIFUNA SETTLEMENT DAY (NOVEMBER 19th)

Each year on November 19th, Belize comes alive to mark Garifuna Settlement Day, commemorating the arrival of the Garifuna people to the shores of Belize in 1832. While this significant holiday is observed nationwide, the heart of the festivities beats strongest in Dangriga, recognized as the spiritual capital of the Garifuna people. Experience the essence of Garifuna Settlement Day by participating in various events and activities that showcase the resilience and cultural contributions of the Garifuna people. From spirited parades featuring traditional dances and music to insightful historical presentations, the day is full of cultural pride and unity.

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS: (DECEMBER 24th, 25th, 31st )

As the year ends, San Pedro’s Central Park transforms into a wonderland, adorned with lighting and decorations to celebrate the Christmas holiday and usher in the New Year.

Each year brings a unique theme, captivating locals, and visitors alike with its creative and festive spirit. At the heart of the park, the town Christmas tree stands tall, beside it, oversized block letters for the upcoming year serve as a festive backdrop, inviting everyone to pose for pictures. The town embraces the joyous atmosphere, and Christmas and New Year become highly anticipated and treasured Belizean holidays.
